OneHourTranslation.com is a US based translation company which provides language translation services all over the world. The company was launched in 2008 and it was recognized by the Common Sense Advisory to be the first ever company to successfully crowd-source human translation services. The company is currently providing translation services for 75 languages and 2500 language pairs. There are two types of accounts supported on their website, Customer and Translator accounts. Customers upload their documents that they need to get translated and translators translate those documents for them. The company currently has over 15,000 translators working for them.
HOW DOES IT WORK
Since we are interested in making money by doing translation jobs so we won’t be discussing the Customer part here. We only want to know how to start working as a translator for them and how to earn cash for doing those freelance translation tasks. The good news is, working as a Translator is very easy and you will be comfortable in doing the jobs once you start getting to know how the system works. Please know that this guide is strictly not for you if you don’t know how to read, write and speak in more than one language. Automatic machine translations are strictly not allowed and your account will be banned forever if you try to do it the wrong way. You have to be expert at at least two languages to be able to qualify as a Translator.
You can apply as a professional translator through this LINK. You simply need to fill out the application form and attach your work experience letters or certificates with your application if you have any. You will also be required to pass a professional translation exam. Once you get approved as a translator you will start getting notification emails about opportunities which you will be able to accept right away. Here are some steps that explain the working of the system:
- You will receive emails about latest jobs that become available on the website.
- You can read the whole description and the specific instructions posted by the customer before accepting the job. After reading the instructions you can accept the job.
- Once you complete the job you will upload the necessary translated files or documents on the portal and submit your work.
- The client will approve or reject your work and will give feedback on your performance.
You performance will decide the frequency of how many job you will receive in the future. If your performance and accuracy is good then you will be offered more jobs. So make sure that you do the job as accurately as possible and always double check your work. Here’s how the Job description interface actually looks like:
So the whole process of accepting a job ad delivering it is quite simple provided that you have carefully read and followed all the instructions. Your work quality will decide the number of jobs that you will be getting in the future.
HOW DOES ONEHOURTRANSLATION PAY
OneHourTranslation.com provides very easy and quick payment solutions for the translators. Once the customer approves your work, your account will be credited based on the number of words that you have translated. Every job specifies the number of credits that you will be getting after completing a job. 100 credits = $1. So if you complete a job that is offering 3000 credits that means you will be getting $30. Once the credits have been transferred to your account, you can withdraw them immediately. There’s also a manual handling fee associated with the payment which will not be charged if you request your payment on 15th or end of the month because the payments on these dates are processed automatically.
There are two types of Language pair groups, Exclusive languages and Regular languages. Exclusive languages offer bonus credits on completing the job. HERE‘s the list of exclusive language pairs and their payment rates.
OneHourTranslation.com offers three payment methods to the translators:
- Paypal
- Payoneer Master Card
- Wire Transfer
You can apply for an OHT Payoneer card through the website. The card will be delivered for free but there will be a small fee associated with the payments. There may be some transaction fees associated with Wire Transfer and Paypal as well.

im intrested in working for this company as a translator
Then please apply as explained in the article.
Onehourtranslation is not a recommendable translation agency for translators in my opinion. They will not pay you in the end. They just let you work and never reach the limit (credits) for being paid. They also ask you to pay in into their paypal account some money (o, 15) that will never be given back to you even if you ask them to do so.
I myself have an account with Onehourtranslation and they have never asked me to pay any money. It might be an exceptionally bad experience at your side.
I have an account in OneHourTranslation and they are excelent, they pay me on time.. of course 30 days to pay, like they said… i already won something like 900€ in less then 2 mounths, so if someone says the webpage is not good, bla bla bla, that is bullshit.. the site is excelent.
Thank you for your letting us know about your experience Carolina

In my view, you have some misunderstanding about Onehourtranslation, which are not true, I have been working for the site since last 4 years and I have earned more than $ 7,000 so far. So, I can’t be agree with your opinion.
I have been working for onehourtranslation. They are like many other translation agencies. They just pay shit,
Nice suggestion, If you’re a professional translator. When I started working as a freelance translator five years ago, I didn’t know anything about the translation industry and I wasn’t sure if I was able to make a full income working from home.
